JOHN GRIMES ROOM DIVIDER
Large vintage room divider by John Grimes Furniture. Made in Melbourne. Teak veneer construction with wooden recessed handles. Features a long sideboard/buffet unit and hutch piece (which can be removed for transport). It is veneered on both sides, so suitable for use as a room divider. The base has double cupboards with shelves on both ends. And a single middle cupboard with drawers inside. The top one is a green felt cutlery drawer. The back of the base is just solid veneer. The upper hutch piece has a double cupboard with slim shelves inside. And open shelves on the reverse side. And epic piece offering great storage, produced by a top quality Australian maker.
It's a wonderful piece of furniture, in original vintage condition, but it isn't perfect. There's a few chips to the veneer notably around the bottom of the left hand panel (when front facing). Some of the shelves and the bottom drawer have various marks on them. The top of the hutch and the right hand side of the hutch and sideboard do not have veneer on them. Perhaps it previously attached to another piece, or sat against a wall. It doesn't particularly detract, but worth noting. There's also a few paint splotches around the place. Mostly down the "unfinished" right hand panels. There's a couple of deep scratches on top of the sideboard, from the attaching/removal of the hutch. They're somewhat hidden when the hutch is in place and much less noticeable. The open shelves on the back of the hutch piece have a few ring marks. See pics for details. But regardless, it presents nicely and is a really impressive piece of furniture.
